Council chiefs have praised the local government settlement announced by the Welsh Government today as it slowed the pace of council budget cuts in the devolved nation.

The Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) insisted the draft settlement outlining a 1.4% budget reduction - as opposed to the 4% decrease from previous years - was ‘as good as it gets in the current climate'.
