A MP has likened overly centralised government to slavery in a debate on the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill.

Nottingham North MP Mr Graham Allen told the House of Commons the Bill would be the end of several hundred years of the imperial view that Whitehall knows best – a view he described as ‘nonsense'.
