What a wonderful world

Creative thinking allied with strong team and partnership working underpinned Stroud's emergency planning response to a one in 1,963-year flood event, says Kathy O'Leary.

‘And I think to myself, what a wonderful world!' I warbled joyfully at the community choir rehearsal last Monday evening. Thunder rumbled menacingly outside. My phone buzzed.

I sprinted the 200m home from the church, dodging hailstones, to join an emergency planning Teams call as social media footage of localised flash flooding in Stroud town centre, four miles down the hill, started to come through.
