What does the new world order look like for local government?

Going back to the way the world was before the pandemic and returning to old ways of working would be an ill-advised move for local government, says Trevor Holden. People have to be high on the agenda, he adds.

As we continue the move towards a new business as normal, whatever that may looks like, many of us will be examining the lessons we learnt from our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how we can build on them.

There is however a danger that, just as quickly as we changed and adapted to these new and exciting opportunities, our organisational muscle memory could easily pull us back to our old ways of working. Indeed, there will be some among us who would be more comfortable with, and champion such a retrenchment.
