Blow to hopes for independent levelling up body

An amendment to the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill would have established a body to scrutinise progress against the Government's missions.

A bid to create an independent body to oversee levelling up progress has been dropped.

An amendment to the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill tabled by Labour's shadow levelling up minister Alex Norris would have required the Government to commission a body to scrutinise progress against its levelling up missions.
