Town hall employers and trade unions have reached a ground-breaking deal to overhaul the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), including plans to ditch payments linked to final salary, it has been revealed.

After months of tough negotiations, employer and staff bodies today (31 May) announced an effective settlement designed to ensure that while council staff retain a generous pension, the retirement plan remains sustainable over the long-term.
