Local government leaders have vowed to support training programmes aimed at improving council social workers' understanding of child sexual abuse.

Cllr John Merry, vice-chairman of the Local Government Association's children and young people board, this week warned that no part of the public sector could afford to be ‘complacent' about the threat posed by child sexual exploitation.
