Education secretary, Michael Gove, has announced a consultation on the future of grants paid to local authorities with low numbers of academies, after complaints over their loss of top-sliced cash used to fund the flagship schools initiative.

The consultation was announced by the Department for Education and published alongside the DCLG's provisional finance settlement for 2012/13, last week.
