Senior social services managers have expressed concerns over the Conservative Party's controversial immigration announcement, warning Theresa May's post-Brexit policy must consider the skills councils need in lower-wage sectors.

Amid confusion over political ownership of the proposed immigration plan at the Conservatives' annual conference in Birmingham, prime minister Ms May announced the policy would deliver the Brexit promise of taking back control of the UK's borders, with an immigration system that ‘ends freedom of movement once and for all'.
