Local government contractors could soon be subject to the same tough rules on personal service companies (PSCs) as public bodies, the Treasury has warned.

Rules introduced earlier this year require public sector hirers, including councils, to determine whether offers to supply services through PSCs meet UK tax requirements. The ‘IR35' rules were introduced after it was revealed that thousands of self-employed contractors were using corporate tax structures to minimise what would otherwise be income tax contributions.
