Orkney Islands Council will meet this week to discuss potential independence from the UK as it seeks to improve its financial position amid revenue challenges.

Orkney Islands Council will meet this week to discuss potential independence from the UK as it seeks to improve its financial position amid revenue challenges.

The council has been invited to discuss a motion tomorrow, which suggests exploring closer ties with Norway, Denmark or Iceland - or a relationship to the UK similar to that enjoyed by the largely autonomous Channel Islands or overseas territories such as the Falkland Islands.
