Reforms to local government pensions will be negotiated separately from other public sector retirement talks, trade union leaders have announced following today's crucial meetings with ministers.

In what could amount to an important concession by Whitehall chiefs, it has been agreed that proposed changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) designed to ease the cost of town hall retirement plans will be covered by separate talks.
