Councils have demanded greater powers to scrutinise out-of-school settings (OOSS) after a Government-led review identified ‘significant potential for safeguarding harm’.

Councils have demanded greater powers to scrutinise out-of-school settings (OOSS) after a Government-led review identified ‘significant potential for safeguarding harm'.

A £3m four-year Department for Education (DfE) review of OOSS services, which reported to ministers late last year, revealed serious concerns about the lack of state oversight of children who join uniformed organisations such as Scouts and GirlGuiding, sports and leisure clubs, tuition centres and arts clubs.
