Countering terror locally

With the announcement of the Government’s CONTEST counter-terrorism strategy following on from other major reviews into policing and safety, Mark Conrad looks at what it all means for local authorities.

It is an oft-overlooked part of local authorities' remit, but a recent flurry of Whitehall activity briefly thrust vital sub-national counter-terror strategies to the centre of the UK's policy agenda.

Given Brexit wrangles and the 70th anniversary of the NHS, the window of opportunity in which to focus on councils' anti-terror – or, more accurately, anti-radicalisation – work will be short.
