All parts of the country have been levelled down

For the next Government there will be serious choices and decisions to make in order to deliver the economic growth all parts of the country need, says Andrew Carter.

Every part of the UK's economy has suffered since the financial crisis of 2008 and this year's General Election is a chance to finally mark the beginning of a deliberate, multi-decade programme of renewal.

Compared with the era before the Great Recession and with the UK's international peers, the UK has had a torrid time – a lost decade, the longest period of economic stagnation since the Napoleonic Wars.
