CQC demands £15m to raise health inspection bar

Health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) requests an extra £15m per year to tackle failing service inspections.

Health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has requested an extra £15m per year for additional support teams to tackle failing service inspections.

Responding to concerns raised by the House of Commons Health Committee last Tuesday, CQC chair Jo Williams hit back at suggestions the CQC was incapable of regulating the sector, but revealed the body is in talks with the Department of Health for a 10% budget increase to address resource intensive services.
