Basildon DC spent £4.8m on the forced eviction of travellers from the Dale Farm site – less than the anticipated cost – it has been announced.

The council's Conservative leader, Tony Ball, said the fact that the evictions did not cost as much as anticipated gave him 'some degree of satisfaction'.
