Whitehall officials are considering rules designed to prevent a future ‘mutualised' Audit Commission from being quickly sold to one of the ‘big four' accounting firms.

The MJ understands DCLG ministers have asked civil servants to develop a framework under which a rapid sell-off of a mutualised commission could be prevented.
