As inevitably predictable as it was shamefully embarrassing and arrogant, these are the words spoken by the leader of Kensington & Chelsea RLBC to the BBC's World this Weekend programme five days after the Grenfell tragedy.

The lamentable hoisting of the Kensington & Chelsea white flag of surrender to desperate residents so quickly after the fire had destroyed the antiquated high rise and ruined so many lives should never have happened. Yet it did not have to be this way.
