Plans for a new local government finance system must garner support across the political spectrum, the Adam Smith Institute has warned.

Ministers' plans for a new local government finance system must garner support across the political spectrum, or the reforms face becoming a ‘single-term' agenda, an influential think-tank has warned.

A report into the DCLG's proposed plans to devolve greater financial powers to local authorities, published by the Smith Institute on 8 July, urges the coalition government to seek some form of political consensus over plans to localise business rates, for example.
