Districts lead shared services programme

Shared services are currently delivering £157m of savings to taxpayers annually, survey by the L.G.A has found.

Shared services are currently delivering £157m of savings to taxpayers annually, a survey by the Local Government Association has concluded.

The study, the results of which were published on 1 December, found that 219 councils are now sharing services such as waste, recycling, and 'back office' functions such as human resources and payroll. The report's authors found 143 examples of councils working together.
