Ministers have warned this year's local and national elections are 'not business as usual' – as councils prepare to tackle technological and geopolitical threats to voting security.

With councils entering the pre-election period ahead of local polls on 2 May, senior politicians warned about further risks of cyber attacks and potential civil disobedience or extremism motivated by conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.
