The emerging powers of district councils

District councils are increasingly adopting a commercial approach to maximise efficiency and income, says Allen Graham.

As the debate regarding the ethics of legitimate tax avoidance continues, it highlights the values and integrity expected of global business organisations and the role of public bodies acting in the public interest.

There is an expectation that all companies should pay their fair share towards the society they are resident within. This is relevant to district councils as we are tasked with the responsibility to collect local taxes, which are essential in supporting our local infrastructure, services and economy.
