Councils could save £900m a year from local government pensions without increasing staff contributions for two years, employers have reported.

In the absence of a negotiated settlement with trade unions following a series of talks on the future of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), the Local Government Employers (LGE) has put forward a proposal to achieve the Treasury's demand for a £900m annual pension scheme saving through a series of measures.
