Local authority employers have been accused of planning to 'tear up' the national agreement on local government terms and conditions amid Treasury demands for regional pay schemes.

The GMB trade union, which represents thousands of town hall staff, said that employers' organisations have in recent weeks outlined plans for 'much reduced' new agreements on pay and conditions for staff such as cleaners, clerks and social workers.
