Senior council staff now earn around six times less than their private sector counterparts, research obtained by The MJ has found.

A study by local government's biggest trade union, Unison, also revealed that senior staff have been subject to deep real-terms pay cuts in recent years, in stark contrast to executives across comparable FTSE-listed companies.
