We want an extension of the transitional grants

Counties' core grants are set to drop double the rate of other council types, says Simon Edwards as he urges ministers to extend the transitional grants for another two years.

In assessing the reaction from county leaders to this year's provisional local government finance settlement, there is a strong sense of déjà vu.

The County Councils' Network (CCN) had put together a strong argument for extra resource in the settlement for local authorities, including backing from the Local Government Association on transition grants.
