An Ofsted-style rating system for proposed developments that could be used to help determine planning permissions has been backed by housing secretary Michael Gove.

The proposed Placemaking Matrix from Policy Exchange, a centre-right think-tank with close ties to the current Government, attempts to replicate Ofsted's single-word rating for housing developments.
