Levelling up secretary Michael Gove has announced he will stand down as an MP and not contest the General Election – bringing an end to his oversight of local government.

Levelling up secretary Michael Gove has announced he will stand down as an MP and not contest the General Election – bringing an end to his oversight of local government.

Gove revealed his plan late on 24 May and said it was time for a ‘new generation' to lead the Conservative Party.
