Local government secretary Michael Gove has threatened intervention across nine underperforming council planning departments this summer – unless they show improvements over the next few weeks.

Mr Gove wrote to the chief executives of the nine councils last week, warning they have until next month to demonstrate improvements in the speed with which they decide planning applications.
