Whitehall departments have been warned by a group of MPs to end their reliance on large-scale IT contracts, which have been a 'recipe for rip-offs'.

A report published yesterday by the Public Administration Select Committee,blamed a lack of IT skills in Government and urged ministers to widen their supply base and reduce contract sizes to allow smaller companies to bid for services.
