Government criticised over 'unfair' reforms

CIPFA calls for more time to assess the impact of government plans to overhaul the business rates and council-tax benefits system.

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has added its voice to critics of plans to overhaul the business rates and council-tax benefits system – and called for more time to assess the impact of government proposals.

The influential professional finance organisation has warned that changes outlined in consultation on the Local Government Resources Review (LGRR), which ends on 24 October, will not lead to any clear link between business rates and economic growth.
