Chancellor Philip Hammond has hinted he could ease some of the financial pressures on local government brought about by prolonged austerity.

Speaking to the BBC's Andrew Marr show yesterday, Mr Hammond suggested he would review government plans to make a further £3m of cuts to local authority budgets – and councils are likely to know the result of the review this autumn.
