Hertfordshire CC has appointed John Wood as its new chief executive.

Mr Wood is currently the authority's deputy chief executive, having first joined Hertfordshire as a principal transport engineer in 1991. He became the county's environment director in 2003, before promotion to the deputy chief's role in 2009.
