Labour's shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, has announced he will fund ‘personal care free at the point of use' across England if the party wins the next general election.

The new policy, which would cost an estimated £6bn annually, is seen as the ‘first building block' in Labour's planned, longer-term move towards a National Care Service, Mr McDonnel told delegates at his party's annual conference in Brighton on 23 Sepetmber.
