Local government's pension funds have called for an overhaul of international accounting standards, after warning the collapse of the banking sector was caused by ‘significant deficiencies' in reporting.

The Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF), which represents town hall funds controlling £100bn of assets, has published detailed research into the reasons behind the 2007-10 UK banking crisis which pre-empted the public sector austerity drive.
