Council leaders have reacted angrily to communities secretary Sajid Javid's Local Government Association (LGA) conference speech, with senior figures describing it as a ‘declaration of war'.

Speaking weeks after the sector was rocked by the Grenfell Tower tragedy, Mr Javid said Kensington & Chelsea RLBC had been guilty of ‘serious failings in the immediate aftermath,' which ‘caused unnecessary suffering for residents'.
