Council employers and trade unions are poised to agree a ground-breaking new pensions deal within 72 hours, The MJ understands.

Numerous sources close to the long-running discussions today reported that the two sides have provisionally agreed a deal that would ensure the sustainability of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) amid ministerial demands for a new settlement - and are now awaiting final ministerial approval.
