Locals want independent shops, LGA poll shows

Residents believe supermarket chains such as are not as important to local economic revival than independent shops, a new study suggests.

Residents believe supermarket chains such as Tesco and Sainsbury's are not as important to local economic revival than the existence of independent shops, a new study suggests.

Research by the Local Government Association (LGA) and pollster ComRes, published on 2 March, found that nearly eight in ten (79%) of local people believe that local producers - such as butchers and bakers - are critical to the future success of their high streets.
