West Midlands mayor Andy Street yesterday defended his proposal for an £11 council tax precept after it was rejected by the combined authority's cabinet.

The cabinet, made up of the region's council leaders, dismissed Mayor Street's proposal last week, although the Conservative mayor remains hopeful a compromise agreement will be reached and talks are ongoing.
