Minister: 500,000 figure for unitaries an 'average'

Jim McMahon has said a population size of 500,000 could end up as the ‘average' when unitary government is completed across the country.

The local government minister told delegates at the District Councils' Network (DCN) conference near Windsor that the figure was ‘potentially an average of where this might settle at the end of a process across the whole country'.
