Minister defends voter ID trial

Cabinet Office minister Chloe Smith this week defended Government plans to trial new voter ID systems amid fresh claims the requirement could be discriminatory.

Cabinet Office minister Chloe Smith this week defended Government plans to trial new voter ID systems amid fresh claims the requirement could be discriminatory.

During a House of Commons debate, Ms Smith confirmed new voter ID requirements would go ahead in five areas - Woking, Gosport, Watford, Swindon and Bromley - during next week's local government elections.
