MPs may recall officers over spending 'failures'

The chair of the Commons' influential public accounts committee has warned she will not hesitate to recall Whitehall officials to explain future failures to adopt key recommendations of her panel and the National Audit Office.

Margaret Hodge issued her warning after the Treasury published a comprehensive update of Whitehall's progress against a wide-range of recommendations from the two watchdogs since the coalition came to power – a document which reveals a mixed record across departments.
