Plans to reorganise local government in Oxfordshire may be stymied by communities secretary Sajid Javid's intervention in neighbouring Northamptonshire, senior sources have claimed.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is currently assessing a single-unitary proposal for Oxfordshire, but, under a ‘sunset clause' in the Cities and Local Government Devolution Act 2016, Mr Javid would need to make any consensus-based decision by March 2019.
