ONS data will help councils tackle child abuse

The ONS has undertaken the mammoth task of attempting to map child abuse nationally, says Heather Jameson - 'and collating the data will help the sector gain an understanding of where the major problems are and where resources are needed most'.

Manchester City Council has become the latest in a long line of authorities that has held its hands up following historical failures to protect children from sexual exploitation.

A report into the failings of Operation Augusta this week found that public authorities knew youngsters were being ‘subjected to the most profound abuse and exploitation' but failed to protect them.
