Osborne to extend Council Tax freeze

George Osborne will announce an extension to the council tax freeze in England for another year.

Chancellor George Osborne is poised to announce an extension to the council tax freeze in England for another year – at a cost of around £800m – when he addresses the Conservative Party conference this afternoon.

Conservative sources claimed that throughout the proposed 2012/13 freeze, the average family could save £72. Mr Osborne will reportedly fund the policy through Whitehall under-spends.
