'Quango cull' law gains Royal Assent

The Public Bodies Act has received Royal Assent.

The Public Bodies Act – the law that will expedite the abolition of Regional Development Agencies and empower new local enterprise organisations – has received Royal Assent.

Cabinet Office minister, Francis Maude, confirmed the move on 15 December and now plans to forge ahead with his 'bonfire of the quangos' that will see many local government-related arm's length bodies either abolished or devolved to local authority control.
