Reforms could scupper pension deal say unions

Trade unions dismiss employers'plans to save £900m a year from the LGPS scheme.

Trade unions have effectively dismissed employers' plans to save £900m a year from the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) without increasing staff contributions, citing concerns that forthcoming government reform proposals could render any short-term pension changes pointless.

A flurry of employer, staff and government activity over the LGPS followed high-level meetings held last week, although it remained clear that town halls and staff bodies had failed to reach a negotiated agreement on LGPS reforms.
