Environment lobbyists have urged ministers to re-run a consultation on controversial planning reforms, despite receiving assurances over the 'protection of the British landscape' from prime minister David Cameron.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) responded positively to letters sent by Number 10 to a range of environmental and conservation organisations, following their concerns over the Government's draft National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
