Scrapping supplementary vote won't improve voting system

Interim director of IPPR North, Arianna Giovannini, says scrapping supplementary vote looks like a shrewd political move to make new inroads and gain mayoral offices than any attempt at improving the voting system.

In a few weeks' time, the people of South Yorkshire will vote for the election of their second metro mayor.

However, if the Elections Bills currently in the Lords passes without amendments, this might be one of the last times we use the Supplementary Vote (SV) system to select mayors.
